I got over the color scheme, though, and I see it as a bit dated even now, and sold it soon after I bought it. Steinhart has a number of Sub homages that are very nice. I never owned a Squale. I love both but the Squale case is closer to the original oyster-style case design. Very close in fact. The Steinhart case is its own thing, quite flat and very different on wrist. Both the 40mm Squale and the Steinhart 39 fit fine on my 6.75in wrist.

The Steinhart Ocean 1 and the Christopher Ward C60 Trident are well known amongst the affordable watch community as two of the best and most popular Swiss Made divers in the £500 and less range. It’s easy to see why. Both have iconic looks borrowed from Rolex (the Steinhart more so than the C60), both are very well made and are higher . Lately I find myself drawn to the Tudor Pelagos. Let me preface this by saying I already have a 2531.80 Bond Seamaster, a 2534.50 GMT, and an Aqua Terra that has a number so long I can't remember it. So I'm looking for opinions from other Omega owners to the cost vs. value proposition here on a Pelagos vs a new Seamaster. to the earlier 2824 caliber. The 2824-2 version is in the Steinhart Ocean 1 Explorer 39. Its a shock resistant dive watch that will keep good time while exposed to the excitement of a tool watch hard life. ***** Have read/researched that SOME Tudor models use ETA 2824-2 movements, fine tuned in house. Steinhart uses the ETA movements, including . Steinhart vs Squale; . I've been nothing but impressed with it's build quality, it stands up against the Tudor and Sinn's I've owned. Polishing vs brushing is sharp and there's a lot of subtle elements in the case that I really like about it. For example I really like the subtle bevel from back to front around the whole case (so the sides of . Even when Steinhart USA was active I had issues with poor lume applications. I have shied away from Steinhart now, though the DLC Vintage is appealing, I must resist  I suggest the OP go for the Glycine too. Unique, quality, and not batch processed poorly as is the Steinhart. I feel the Ocean series has a strong China connection.

You’re right - the Steinhart does stick out more on its underside. I think the casebacks are about the same thickness, but the Steinhart caseback is more saucer-like (as opposed to the Tudor which has a pretty flat caseback) so that adds to the feeling that the watch sits further off the wrist. Steinhart make submariner-a-likes, whereas Tudor generally make watches that don't look like Rolex models. They have stand-out design features such as the snowflake hands and the materials in the latest models are as good as you'll find at any price point. Steinhart uses automatic Sellita calibers, which are high quality and used by many luxury brands. IWC, Hublot, Raymond Weil, and Sinn have all used Sellita movements or bases. Steinhart also uses Swiss workhorse ETA movements. ETA is known for its accuracy, craftsmanship, and reliability. However, my Steinharts are consistent so you could probably have a watchmaker regulate it closer to 1 second per day. I also think my Tudor Pelagos (in house movement) would stand up slightly better to shocks than my Steinharts because the Tudor has a full balance bridge and freesprung balance.

I've had a number of Steinharts. Their quality is probably the very best for the price, and their designs that aren't homages are 99.99% there, but that awful flat lug-ed case just kind of wrecks it for me. Steinharts quality to price ratio is insane. The chrono is a pretty close homage to a Rolex that’s long out of production, and not so easy to find. Even if I could find one, it would set me back five figures. Anecdotally, both of my Steinharts perform really, really well (and the lume on the diver is phenomenal). Timekeeping-wise, the Chrono runs +5spd. It's obviously an homage to the Tudor 9411/0. I've never been a fan of homages, thought original designs were always better, and I still stand by this.
